Lesson from World Cup – Follow Up and Get the Sale

With a score of 0-0 in the USA vs Algeria 2010 World Cup soccer match and only seconds away from a disappointing tie, Landon Donovan of team USA followed up on a rebound and pushed the ball into the back of Algeria’s net to score the winning goal that would take USA on to the next round in the World Cup.

Perhaps Landon Donovan’s follow up goal is a good lesson in business…
Follow up with your opportunities, get the sale.

There have been times when I thought a prospect wasn’t interested in going forward with a professional website design or in running an internet marketing campaign to increase their sales opportunities, but when I followed up with the prospects I came to find I was wrong!  Instead, they would be on vacation, out sick, or simply had too much on their plate at that time, but were definitely interested in doing something in the weeks to follow.

There are many ways to follow up with your opportunities.  I always found a no-pressure phone call to be more effective than an email.
